Surf & Kite Theologos runs the kite and windsurf stations on Theologos beach, 5 km south of Rhodes airport, from April to November. Instructors teach to VDWS and IKO standards, with no more than three students per instructor and radio helmets.
Mornings are usually light and calm for beginners, and the Meltemi typically builds to around 20 knots side-onshore from midday. Rescue by jet ski is included when you rent through the centre or its partners, and lockers, showers and a beach café are on site. Which course is right for you?
- Never flown a kite: start with Taste it (4 h) to try it, or go straight to Basics (9 h) if you want to ride on your own and get the VDWS licence.
- Already had lessons, not riding yet: Intermediate Rider works on water starts and your first runs.
- Riding, but want to progress: Advanced Rider covers staying upwind, turns, gybes and first jumps.
- Independent rider: the 2-hour Get used to our spot session plus a week of rental gets you safely on the water at Theologos.
- Foilers: private kitefoil lessons with walkie-talkie coaching.
The spot
Wind and conditions at the station
The Meltemi blows across Theologos from spring to autumn. Mornings are usually light, around 2 to 3 Beaufort with a calm sea, which is ideal for beginners. Around midday the wind picks up to about 20 knots side-onshore for intermediate and advanced riders, and in the evening a small wave forms on a sandbar about 30 m from the shore. Safety and equipment
Lessons use CORE kites and the latest safety systems, with radio helmets so you can hear your instructor on the water, and groups of no more than three students. Jet-ski rescue is included in the rental price when you book through the school or one of its partners. The station has about 100 kites and 50 boards from CORE and Carved, renewed several times a season.
