The spots
The kite spots of El Gouna
El Gouna's kite stations line about 6 km of coast, from Kitepower in the north to Osmosis at Club Paradisio in the south. Each station runs its own beach and riding zones, and the water is not the same from one end to the other.
The northern lagoon: Mangroovy and Casa Cook

The largest kite area in town. KBC describes several square kilometres of standing-depth lagoon next to its 800 m private beach, and Kitepower says the first 800 m off its beach are knee to waist deep. The Duotone Pro Center sits inside Casa Cook El Gouna, where a sandbank turns into a flat pool at high tide.

What size kite for El Gouna
On a typical 14 to 20 knot afternoon, KitePeople's size chart puts a 70 kg rider on a 7 to 10 m kite and an 80 kg rider on an 8 to 11 m. Add an 11 to 13 m, or a foil, for the lighter days around 12 knots, which come more often in winter. If you would rather travel light, the stations rent the whole range: the Duotone Pro Center has 60 Duotone kites from 3 to 17 m, and Osmosis rents Core and North kites from 4 to 17 m.

Kite lessons in El Gouna: schools and prices
KitePeople at the Mövenpick (IKO) charges €450 for a 6-hour semi-private beginner course with two students per instructor, and €120 for a private hour. Osmosis Kiteboarding at Club Paradisio (VDWS and IKO instructors) is the only one of the three with group courses: €300 for 6 hours in a group of 3 to 4, €445 semi-private or €525 private. The Duotone Pro Center at Casa Cook (IKO and VDWS) teaches one or two students at a time, with prices in its online booking tool.

El Gouna for families and non-kiters
El Gouna is a privately managed resort town with controlled entrances, canals and lagoons, and getting around is simple: tuk tuks cost about 50 Egyptian pounds per person for any ride in town (KBC). Two of the three kite hotels are built for families, with kids clubs and children's pools; Casa Cook is adults only. The wind usually builds from late morning, so mornings are the calmest time for a swim.

Fly to Hurghada International Airport (HRG), about 4 to 5 hours from central Europe (KBC). El Gouna is about 25 km north of Hurghada, 30 to 40 minutes by road from the airport; package-holiday buses that stop at Hurghada hotels first can take up to 2 hours. Inside El Gouna, tuk tuks and taxis take you anywhere, so you do not need a car.
You kite from a station: even with your own gear you register, get a spot briefing and pay a beach or storage fee.
Depth changes with the tide. In summer, especially around full moon, KBC's part of the northern lagoon can drain for several hours, and riders then kite outside the reef.
Mornings are often calm: the thermal usually builds in the late morning.
