A long, shallow lagoon in front of the resorts of Al Ahyaa, which Kite School Egypt calls the AMC lagoon. Sultan Kite School and Kite School Egypt share the beach of Palma Resort, a residential complex right next to AMC Royal Hotel & Spa; Sultan describes patches of deeper water and natural ramps for jumping, and a long jetty. Kite Marine runs its own station at the Bellagio, about 900 m to the north-west on Google Maps.

Our eight Hurghada hotels sit in the two kite areas. In the north, in Al Ahyaa: AMC Royal Hotel & Spa, an all-inclusive 5-star resort about 200 m from the Palma Resort station of Sultan Kite School; the former Hawaii Le Jardin, renovated and renamed SUNRISE Azalea Aqua Park Resort, about 300 m from the same station; and the Bellagio Beach Resort & Spa, about 400 m from its own Kite Marine station. In the south: the Continental Hotel Hurghada, with Happy Surf in the hotel's port, about 300 m from the main building; Jaz Aquamarine, with a Kite Marine station on the resort's own beach at its northern end, about 500 m from the main building; and Hurghada Long Beach Resort, with High Surf & Kite School on the hotel beach, about 250 m from the main building. Two southern hotels have no station of their own: the Mercure Hurghada, where the Harry Nass centre closed at the end of September 2026, and the Titanic Royal, in the El-Nasr district; for both, the nearest school is Kite Royal Academy at the Pickalbatros Palace Resort, a little over 1 km away on Google Maps. Is Hurghada windy? Wind and water month by month
Yes, all year. The wind blows mostly from the north, and the local schools count about 265 to 270 windy days a year. It builds during the day, so afternoons are usually windier than early mornings (Sultan Kite School). Sultan finds spring often the windiest season and September and October strong and even, with more moderate days in winter that suit lessons. Kite School Egypt names April to October as the most reliable months and quotes 15 to 25 knots on most days from April to November, 12 to 18 knots in winter. In May and November the wind can swing to south-south-east and blow side-shore.
The averages below include nights and calm mornings, so a typical riding afternoon is windier. Summer is very hot on land, often above 35 °C, and the sea is coolest, about 21 °C, in February and March.

What size kite for Hurghada
Sultan Kite School's size guide puts most riders on a 12 to 14 m kite in light wind (about 12 to 15 knots), a 9 to 11 m in medium wind (15 to 20 knots) and a 6 to 8 m above 20 knots, one size smaller for light riders and one size bigger for heavy ones. Spring is often the windiest season, so pack your smaller kites from March to May. If you would rather travel light, the stations rent the whole range: Sultan's quiver runs from the Nobile T5 at 5.5 m to the Cabrinha Switchblade at 17 m.

Kite lessons in Hurghada: schools and prices
At Sultan Kite School, on the northern lagoon, the website lists €50 for a private hour, €130 for a 3-hour introduction, €220 for 6 hours, €310 for 9 hours and €400 for the 12-hour course, with the instructor, equipment, helmet and insurance included; the school says most beginners ride on their own after 10 to 12 hours. In the south, Kite Royal Academy at the Pickalbatros Palace Resort charges €120 for each 2-hour session, or €500 for 8 hours plus a day of rental.

Families
Hurghada for families and non-kiters
Both northern hotels on our list are large all-inclusive resorts built for families: AMC Royal has a kids club and a water park, and SUNRISE Azalea an aqua park and a kids club for ages 3 to 12. The sea in front of them is shallow for a long way out, and jetties lead to deeper water for swimming; tour operators recommend water shoes on the partly stony beaches. The wind usually builds through the day, so mornings are the calmest time for a swim.
Climates to Travel names April and mid-October to mid-November as the best months for swimming and sunbathing, as summer is very hot on land. On no-wind days, Sultan Kite School suggests:

Getting there and getting around
Fly to Hurghada International Airport (HRG), about 4 hours from much of Europe, with direct and charter flights from the UK. The southern hotels are close to the airport, 3 to 12 km in a straight line on Google Maps. The northern ones are about 20 to 25 km by road (tour operators), and Kite School Egypt, next to AMC Royal, puts the drive at about 20 minutes.
Taxis are easy to find: agree the fare before you set off if there is no meter. The Go-Bus between Hurghada and El Gouna can drop you near Palma Resort, according to Sultan Kite School.
