Marsa Alam's kite stations sit on two stretches of resort coast between the airport and the town, about 14 km apart (map listings). Each school runs its own beach, and the two areas suit different riders.
The Casa Mare lagoon

The Kiteboarding Pro Center has run this lagoon since 2013 from a private kite beach at Casa Mare Resort, with Casa Blue Resort next door, and every water lesson is one to one. OLA Sportreisen, which sells kite trips here, describes a riding zone framed by two long jetties, better for learning and freeriding than for long reaches, and says kiting over the outer reef is currently not allowed.
El Naaba: the bay and the lagoon
30 km south of the airport, on the Three Corners Equinox beach

Tommy Friedl ProCenter sits on the southern part of the Three Corners Equinox beach. A jetty on the upwind side and the Potato Reef, about 200 m out, calm the bay, and a passage about 250 m wide south of the reef leads to the open sea. Lessons and less experienced riders use the lagoon 2 km south, reached on foot or by the station's shuttle (€8 a day, €40 a week).

These stations are far from the two areas above, so they are a different trip rather than an extra session. Kite Village in Hamata is listed by the VDWS as a year-round school, and MarsaAlam.com notes that the water level in the Lahami lagoon drops in July and August, narrowing the riding area to a channel.

Three hotels put you within a walk of a kite station. Casa Mare Resort, the former Royal Tulip, is a 421-room all-inclusive family resort with an aqua park and kids' clubs, about 300 m from the Kiteboarding Pro Center's beach. Casa Blue Resort next door is ultra all-inclusive, takes guests from 12 and is about 400 m from the same station. The Three Corners Equinox Beach Resort is an all-inclusive family resort with Tommy Friedl ProCenter at the southern end of its beach, about 700 m from the main building; beginners there learn in a lagoon 2 km further south. Distances run from each hotel's main building to the station on the map listings.
Both schools work from their own beach next to our hotels: one is kite only and teaches one to one, the other is a VDWS station that also teaches wing foiling and windsurfing.

Yes, all year, but the sources disagree on the best months. The Casa Mare school counts about 5 windy days a week on average, nearly 6 from April to the end of November and about 10 in two weeks in winter, so it advises winter visitors to stay at least two weeks. OLA Sportreisen rates September to April best at Casa Mare and expects lighter wind, 12 to 16 knots, from May to August, while Tommy Friedl's centre names January to May and September to December.
Spring and autumn are the months every source rates well, and Climates to Travel calls mid-March to mid-April and mid-October to mid-November the most comfortable weather. Summer is hot: average highs reach 35 °C from June to August.

Kite sizes and gear rental
Typical days bring 15 to 20 knots (OLA Sportreisen, spots4kite), and Tommy Friedl's centre quotes an average of 12 to 20 knots with some days at 25. Neither school publishes a size chart, but both rent complete kits, so you can travel light: the Casa Mare school has about 70 kites and 40 boards, Eleveight kites according to OLA Sportreisen and the school's Facebook page, and Tommy Friedl rents Core kites and boards.
To rent, bring a licence card: VDWS level 4 to 5 at Casa Mare, level 3 for the El Naaba lagoon and level 5 for its bay. Otherwise book a check lesson (€50 at Casa Mare, €40 to €60 at Tommy Friedl). Wetsuits are not included in rental at Casa Mare.

Kite lessons in Marsa Alam: schools and prices
At Casa Mare, the Kiteboarding Pro Center teaches every water hour one to one. Its 2025 price list shows €290 for the 7-hour beginner course (3 hours on the beach, 4 on the water), €150 for 3.5 hours and €60 for a private hour, figures MarsaAlam.com still quoted in February 2026. At El Naaba, Tommy Friedl ProCenter runs VDWS group courses in 3-hour blocks: €140 for one, €360 for three (9 hours) and €460 for four, with private hours at €105 including gear (October 2026 price list).
Kiting with your own gear also costs a beach fee: €70 a week at Casa Mare (2025 list), and at El Naaba a Kitepass from €90 for 6 days or €20 a day. Confirm prices with the school when you book.
Families
Marsa Alam for families and non-kiters
Both kite areas are resort strips with all-inclusive hotels, so families spend their days at the pool, on the beach and on the reef. Casa Mare Resort has an aqua park with slides, children's pools and kids' clubs for children up to 12, and its lagoon is 0.8 to 1.2 m deep. Casa Blue Resort next door takes no children under 12. At El Naaba, the Three Corners Equinox is an all-inclusive family resort with a kids' club, on a sandy bay that slopes gently, so children can wade in to snorkel.
Summer is hot, with average highs of 35 °C from June to August and occasional days above 40 °C (Climates to Travel), so keep beach time for the morning and late afternoon.

Getting there and getting around
Fly to Marsa Alam International Airport (RMF). Casa Mare and Casa Blue are 17 km south of the airport, about 15 minutes by car; El Naaba and the Three Corners Equinox are 30 km south, 25 to 30 minutes away. Marsa Alam town is about 46 km south of Casa Mare and 32 km south of El Naaba (MarsaAlam.com). The resorts line the coast road with little within walking distance, so use taxis or excursions for Port Ghalib, Abu Dabbab or the town.
You kite from a station: both schools charge a beach fee if you bring your own gear (€70 a week at Casa Mare in 2025; €20 a day or a Kitepass from €90 for 6 days at El Naaba).
Rental needs proof of level: a VDWS level 4 to 5 card at Casa Mare, level 3 for the El Naaba lagoon and level 5 for its bay, or a paid check lesson.
