The spot
The kite spot at El Naaba
Walk south along the beach, about 700 m from the main building, to Tommy Friedl ProCenter. In front of it is the surfers' bay: 20 m of sandy standing area, a jetty on the upwind side and the Potato Reef about 200 m out, which calm the water inside. A passage about 250 m wide south of the reef leads to the open sea, where swell of about 1.5 m builds in medium wind, up to 3 m in strong wind, without breaking. The school asks for VDWS level 5 here, and the wind blows side-shore to side-onshore from the left about 80% of the time.
The second spot is a lagoon 2 km south of the station, with standing areas that vary with the tide, a flat pool for about 10 riders that does not depend on the tide, and the school's lesson area. Riders with VDWS level 3 can kite there on their own. The station's shuttle costs €8 a day or €40 a week, and kiting with your own gear needs a Kitepass or the €20 daily beach fee, which are included in rentals and courses.
Families
For families and non-kiters
The resort is all-inclusive and built for families: a kids' club, a children's swimming area and a playground, two pools, a buffet restaurant with sea views and themed nights, the Dolce Vita Italian restaurant on an open-air terrace, and four bars, from the Pool Bar to the Panorama Bar (MarsaAlam.com, Sportif).
The bay itself is the main attraction for non-kiters: soft sand that slopes gently into the water, a jetty of over 200 m out to the reef, and seagrass where green turtles feed and a dugong passes now and then. Extra Divers runs a dive centre on the beach, and Abu Dabbab Bay is about 2 km north. Bring water shoes: guides warn of coral fragments, urchins and stonefish.
Lessons
The kite school on the beach
Tommy Friedl ProCenter is a VDWS station open all year, every day from 9:00 to 18:00. Its beginner courses run in 3-hour blocks, €360 for 9 hours (October 2026 price list), in the lagoon 2 km south, and it also teaches wing foiling and windsurfing.
