The spot
The kite spot at the Palm Royale
Surfmotion's station is about 200 m upwind (north) of the hotel. On its windward side, about 20 m out, a sandbank forms a standing area about 2 km long and 600 m wide, 30 to 60 cm deep depending on the tide, so you can stand up almost everywhere while you learn. For about two and a half hours around low tide part of it dries out, and the open kite area behind it takes over. The school splits the water into a beginner and teaching zone and a freeride zone, keeps kiters apart from windsurfers, and has rescue boats ready.
The wind is mostly from the north. Until 10 or 11 am it blows slightly offshore and lighter, then it settles side-shore from the left and is usually steadiest until 2 or 3 pm. Surfmotion adds that the headland to the north speeds it up by half to one Beaufort force. Surf Point, at the other end of the resort behind the small marina, is a quieter spot with a sandbank and deep water nearby, which foilers like.
Families
For families and non-kiters
The kids club takes children from 4 to 12, and there is a playground, a heated children's pool and a babysitting service. Family rooms are made of two connected units. On the 1.2 km private beach, sunbeds and umbrellas are provided, and the Aqua Center runs snorkelling, kayaks, parasailing, pedalos and banana rides, plus trips to see wild dolphins.
Away from the water there are two pools (one heated), a spa with sauna, steam bath and Jacuzzi, a gym, tennis courts, two new padel courts, an 18-hole mini golf course and the hotel's own stable of Arabian horses for rides along the coast. Extra Fun Divers runs daily dive trips to reefs and wrecks such as the Salem Express. The resort counts 13 bars and restaurants, among them the Italian Il Portico and Asian Delights.

Surfmotion, run by Peter Müller, is the larger centre: VDWS-listed, with kite, windsurf and wing foil courses, rental, storage and rescue boats, about 200 m from the hotel. Surf Point is the hotel's own station for kitesurfing, windsurfing and SUP, on the grounds by the marina.
